Spot ETF-induced Bitcoin rally isn’t guaranteed to stick: Analysts

Image
Investors will likely see Bitcoin surge even more when a spot Bitcoin ETF is approved, but other factors are needed for the rally to sustain, warn analysts. While the approval of a spot Bitcoin (BTC) exchange-traded fund (ETF) will likely spike the price of Bitcoin, some analysts are concerned it won’t be enough to fully thaw the markets from its winter chill.  On Oct. 24 Bitcoin staged its largest single day rally in over a year, surging more than 14% on the news that the ticker of BlackRock’s spot Bitcoin ETF — IBTC — had been listed on the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) website, something markets understood as a positive step forward for the funds’ application. The surge turned out to be even stronger than that of oOct. 16, when Cointelegraph’s incorrect tweet that suggested a spot Bitcoin ETF had been approved. Speaking to Cointelegraph, pseudonymous trader TheFlowHorse — who boasts 184,000 followers on X — said that the two market blips can be seen as a hint ...

Bitcoin ETFs have 75% chance of approval this year: Bloomberg analysts

Bloomberg ETF analysts raised their odds for a spot Bitcoin ETF approval after the recent Grayscale victory against the SEC. Bloomberg analysts have raised the probability for an approved spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) by the end of 2023, following a recent Grayscale victory against the federal securities regulator. In a Aug. 30 post on X (Twitter), Bloomberg senior ETF analyst Eric Balchunas said they have raised the chances to 75% from an earlier 65% — due to the unanimity and decisiveness at which the United States Court of Appeals Circuit reached its decision in the recent case. “The judges unanimously repudiated the SEC’s arguments, and the agency will struggle to justify further denials as it faces deadlines,” Bloomberg analysts James Seyffart and Elliot Stein added in a separate Aug. 30 note. Analysts predict that Bitcoin’s next pre-halving rally could begin in the next four months. In a research note shared with Cointelegraph, New York-based investment firm Berenberg Capital Markets explained its reasons for a bullish outlook on MicroStrategy (MSTR), which Berenberg has given a $430 price target. According to the analysts, MicroStrategy derives the bulk of its value from the 152,333 Bitcoin it held on its books as of June 28, adding that a Bitcoin halving rally could see its shares gain significantly in price. “[It] is our expectation that the price of Bitcoin will repeat its historical pattern of rallying both ahead of and following each Bitcoin halving.” The Bitcoin halving , which is scheduled for April 26, 2024, reduces the BTC issuance rate by 50%, significantly dampening the velocity at which new Bitcoin enter...
